A Clinical Results of Lomefloxacine for Urinary Tract Infection

Abstract
Lomefloxacine is a new synthetic difluorinated quinolone for once-a-day oral use with broad spec-trum antimicrobial activity including a potent activity against a number of gram-negative bacteria. From February 1993 to May 1993, the clinical effects of the lomefloxacin was studied in 45 patients with urinary tract infection(UTI) (uncomplicated 4, complicated 41). We reviewed the bacteriologi-cal, clinical effectiveness and side effects of lomefloxacin. The results were as follows
1. The clinical effects of lomefloxacin on 4 cases of uncomplicated UTI were all good. On 41 cases of complicated UTI, clinical effects were good, fair and poor in 31(75.6%), 9(22.0%) and .1 (2.4%) cases, respectively. Overall clinical efficacy rate was 97.6%.
2. In 24 isolated causative microorganisms(E. coli 13, P. aeruginosa 3, Staphylococcus aureus 2, E. cloacae 2. E. spp. 1, K. pneumoniae 1, Streptococcus group D 1, F. spp. 1), the 21(87.5%) organisms were eradicated and 3 had persisted infection with Streptociccus group D and P. aeruginosa, I and 2, respectively.
3. No significant side effects require discontinuation of lomefloxacin during the treatment was seen.
Therefore, lomefloxacin was thought to be one of the most effective antibiotics on UTI with gram-negativ,: bacilli without any significant side effects.
